The GRANT FOCUS for the 2025 Regional Grants program is charitable initiatives that address Food Insecurity.
SPCCF’s Regional Grants program started as a national initiative ‘Smart & Caring Communities’ led by the Community Foundations of Canada and inspired by a challenge from The Right Honourable David Johnston, at the time Canada’s 28th governor general. His motto, CONTEMPLARE MELIORA (To envisage a better world), refers to his belief in the abilities of all Canadians to imagine and create a smarter, more caring nation and contribute to a fairer, more just world. Community foundations from coast to coast answered the call creating community funds (regional funds) to support local initiatives that build stronger and more caring communities.
Through the generosity of many donors a regional community fund exists for each of our six regions – St. Marys Community Fund, Stratford Community Fund, North Perth Community Fund, Perth South Community Fund, Perth East Community Fund, West Perth Community Fund. Each fund supports charitable initiatives local to its region.
The Community Fund, which provides broad support across our region, was created in 2004 through a generous bequest from Bo Julian Sibold whose vision and belief in the power of community laid an early foundation for the work we continue today.
Regional Grants are specifically intended for charitable organizations that exemplify a 'smart and caring' approach to addressing critical priorities in their respective communities.
